Far Cry 3 - DLC Review

You think you have finished FC3 , Well think again . For all those Gamers who are out there who have completed all the main and side missions and captured all the Outposts and are itching for an more of the action adventure , heads up guys FC3 DLC comes with a  huge punch .

The packs were previously only available as pre-order bonuses, but has now come as one convenient bundle including everything from The Lost Expeditions, The Monkey Business Pack, The Warrior, and The Predator Pack, which breaks down individually as:

Hurk

1. Six New  single player missions  from Monkey Business and the Lost Expeditions packs.
2. Four new animals to hunt: the Mountain Lion, Thylacine, White Tiger and Red Vulture
3. Two new single player weapons: Tribal Knife and Hunter’s M700 Predator Rifle
4. Two multiplayer weapon unlocks: Type-10 Flare, Shotgun and Predator Bow
5. One new character: Hurk and his monkeys
6. Two new end of match movies for multiplayer starring Hurk and his monkeys

We will be looking at only the single player Experience here , so lets plunge in .

Unlike AC 3 DLC where we are required to download TOW for 1.5 GB and then install it seperately , FC3 just comes with a code that can be used to unlock the DLC 's . I mean can you believe that . They were already existing in your version but the only thing was that they were hidden from your eyes . Shame on you Ubisoft . We feel Cheated :( . But still is the extra $9.99 really worth it  . Well for FC3 fans it definitely is .

Monkey Business :: 

This is the main mission in the DLC . It starts with you meeting up with a new character called Hurk who looks like a little beefed up version of Woods from COD , ( COD fans, no offense ) . I am just describing what i felt  . Not to mention that this guy was  a little crazy too . If you are playing this after you have completed the Main story then this will get a little weird . Bcos Hurk's main objective is to get in good graces with the Natives . And the only way of doing that was to make an impact with Hoyt's resources . Now guys who have already played the Main story would already know that Hoyt is long gone . But still Jason listens to it as if he is hearing for the first time and turns up with a missing finger  . Oh come on :P .

Although this guy talks a lot he is not that much of an action type. So that leaves you to do all the dirty work , or should i say the fun Work ;-) What starts as an initial help to capture his monkeys , Slowly pulls Jason into a vortex of destruction and Rescue operations and finally into a huge epic battle inside an underwater Cave .

I have to say that the last mission was really tough as nails . U will be forced to fight against waves and waves of Hoyt's men . And taking into the non auto recharge of ur health , u will be cutting some close corners . Make sure that you have ample Health syringes that boost up ur health to full .

In one instance Hurk will call you as his Tattoo Brother or in his slang - ' Tat Bros ' :D . And he will say a word tats a little A rated , so I will refrain myself from using it here .. But when you see  it in the game u will be laughing ..

Lost Expeditions :

Lost expeditions pack is a lot like Indiana Jones adventure . In all the 3 Missions you enter into a underground secret facility .

Mission 1 :: 

You have to enter a facility which is swarming with Pirates and get some valued information that lies scattered in documents all over the place . Once you piece all the info you get a new location .

Mission 2 : 

Got the from the hints of the previous exploration , you enter the facility and just as you enter the entire place starts blowing up and comes down on you . You have to escape from the place without getting killed from the explosions and Fire , also from the pirates who are trapped there and trying to escape too .Thrill ride for sure .

Mission 3 :

This takes a serious turn towards animal Genetics gone wrong . Gives you the creeps at some points and makes you to remember of the First Far cry where you had to battle against mutated  organisms . Brrr! i still remember that moments  . God that was a good game . Well this time its Dogs that you ought to be scared of . But these guys , though they look threatening , just a small burst from your SMG or Shotgun is enough to take them down . Not much of a challenge as I thought it would be .

So apart from the main missions you also get a Tribal Knife which replaces your Machete  ( Not going to make much of an difference as you wont be able to see this )

And some 4 exotic new animals which I failed to find even though  I searched in vain :(

AC 3 DLC Tyranny of Washington - Episode 1: The Infamy

Players who had been missing AC 3 has a chance to once again don the hood and roam the streets of old NY and Boston as the Assassin of Ancient times . The first episode of the Tyranny of Washington DLC  " The Infamy "is out , so lets have a look at it ,

Story  ::

The game takes place in alternate history wherein George Washington has seized power and become 'King of America', following the events of the American Revolution . Connor / Ratonhnhaké:ton wakes up from his dream to find that the Washington has become corrupted with power from the apple which had made him evil . He opens his eyes to find his mother who immediately asks him to rush off with her as the village is under crucial Danger . Connor who is confused about this new set of events which seems to occur after he had killed Charles Lee , asks his mother to explain .But she replies in the negative saying that there is no time for it and in time he will understand . As you go with her she reveals in a mystic sort of way that she was the reason that Washington had started attacking the village of Connor and his tribe .

A confused Connor follows her and finally meets up with Washington himself who has a scepter with the Apple on it . Not knowing how it came into his hands , while on the other Washington asks Connor's mom to surrender but she refuses and thus follows the epic battle of Connor to redeem Washington from his evil state and to obtain freedom for his people once again.

Gameplay ::

The game takes us back to the age when Ratonhnhaké:ton roamed the frontier in his Tribal clothes ( i.e )  before he dons the Assassin's suit . So initially you don t have your hidden blade and other cool weapons which you had while paying the main game .But later as you progress you will get the hidden blade from your mom and some other cool and wicked powers that forms the highlight of this DLC .

Graphics had been upgraded a little and you will feel it in the way the GPU stutters in one or two huge expanse shots in the mission pan camera .But still the game appears smooth with Connor jumping above wall and diving with his free parkour style movements .

Another new perk of this DLC is the addition of Gaurd Dogs . Main reason they were introduced was to counter your new power ' The Invisibility' . Because these guys can smell you from far afar even when you are cloaked or hidden in bushes or atop a tree from enemy's line of sight . This may work against human enemies . But the Dog's keen sense of smell can track you like

Power of Wolf ::

This is the best part of the DLC . As per instructions from your Clan mother you get upon the Red Willow and drink the Willow Tea which is supposed to give one magical powers that make him invincible .

The one we are discussing about allows Connor to become invisible . Only for sometime too .Bcos as per the story the Tea inspite of providing Power has the effect of killing you . ( Remember Mark of the Ninja ;- )) . So when ever you use the cloak make sure you keep an eye on your health bar as it will slowly start to decrease and you need to stop using the cloak once your health is very low and the screen is flashing a bright Red .

But never mind your health will immediately regenerate and you can hide in the bushes in the mean time and rest . Its exactly like CLOAK in Crysis , and along with new powers that will be coming with the upcoming New episodes , like ' Super Strength ' and ' Super Speed ' ,I think we can easily compare the Tea to  a Nano suit :D ..too bad they didn't know of it in Crytek :D

You also have an option where you can now call upon t eh spirits of Wolf to help you in times of need exactly like how the Assassin's guild works in the Main game . You are the Alpha of the gang so the Wolves respond to your command .

But still the game has its perks in the missions they provide where the use of the power is necessary at some places .

The first episode ends with Connor being captured and led of by General Putnam in a Cart Prison . It seems we have to wait for the second Episode "The Betrayal" , which will be released on March 19 for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 to know what happens next  ....

Quite the suspense they have provided with a cliff hanger closure .

Pro's : 

1. Increased playtime with  your favorite game of all time .
2. Cool Stealth power that makes you invisible for a some amount of time . Quite Lethal if used correctly against enemies.
3. New Collectibles and treasures all over the Frontier Again .

Con's :: 

1. Some guys have reported that the DLC pack is corrupting their old saved games and as a result many players are finding it questionable to download the game or not  .

So a sound advice before you install the DLC is to back up your saved files of your previous main story game and also make sure to copy your orbit Folder and the Orbit.dll file as these contain the reference which helps the game to actually look up your saved games in your PC.

2. Episode 1 is too short :(
3. Graphics is a little demanding so lower End cards may struggle with it .

Overall :: A must play for AC 3 fans for sure

PS4 - Official Announcement and First PS4 Games Teased

Get your first close-up look at Sony's new DualShock controller and camera system for the PlayStation 4.

Some gamers were disappointed Sony stopped short of showing off its new console at today's New York PlayStation 4 event. The good news is that the company has released high-resolution images of its redesigned DualShock controller, and the accompanying camera system used to track the new input device. Check out our gallery below.




Sony has announced the PlayStation 4 will be released later this year.

The announcement was made during the publisher's PlayStation Meeting 2013, broadcast live from New York.

Current president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House and lead system architect Mark Cerny presented the new console, including a comprehensive breakdown of its hardware specifications.

The PS4 is centered around a custom chip that contains eight x86-64 cores and an enhanced PC GPU graphics processor. Sony says the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) has been enhanced to allow for easier use of the GPU for general purpose computing (GPGPU), including physics simulation. The GPU contains a unified array of 18 compute units, which can reportedly collectively generate 1.84 Teraflops of processing power that Sony says will be applied to graphics and simulation tasks, or a mix of the two.



The new console is also equipped with 8GB of unified system memory using a GDDR5, giving the system 176 GB/second of bandwidth and reportedly providing a "further boost" to graphics performance.

Sony also revealed the PS4 will provide "always on"video compression and decompression systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay via the share button on the new DualShock 4 controller, which will feature enhanced rumble capabilities, a touch pad, a headset jack, and a dual camera that senses the position of the controller.

The console will also reportedly reduce the lag time between players and content with a "suspend mode", which keeps the system in a low power state while preserving the game session. Gamers will need only to hit the power button again to be returned to the point where they left off. Additionally, users can reportedly boot a variety of applications including a web browser when playing PS4 games, and can download or update in the background while playing.

Digital titles will also be playable as they are being downloaded.

"

The long-term goal of PS4 is to reduce download times of digital titles to zero: if the system knows enough about a player to predict the next game they will purchase, then that game can be loaded and ready to go before they even click the 'buy' button," Sony said.

Sony also focused on its second screen strategy, unveiling a remote play functionality that will allow players to use the PlayStation Vita as a companion device to the PS4, pulling PS4 titles from the TV directly on to the Vita.




The publisher also unveiled a new iPhone, iPad, and Android application titled "PlayStation App", which will allow users to see things like maps on their second screens when playing a PS4 title, purchase games for the PS4 when not in front of the console, and remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices.

Sony announced the PlayStation 4 will launch holiday 2013.


The first concrete evidence of the PS4's existence came from Sony chief financial officer Masaru Kato, who confirmed in May 2011 that a PlayStation 3 successor was in developme

Although with releases of 2013 cluttering up a gamer's PC lets take a look at an old and released long back but not to be missed game , The Shank . Developed by the Canadian developers Klei Entertainment who were also responsible for the Mark of the Assassin . Thanks to my friend Sid who was the one who mentioned this game to  me when I released my Mark of The Assassin Game Review, I came to know of this awesome game which on the other hand I would have missed completely . As soon as he mentioned it  , I goggled it and had a look at the gameplay .

What I saw impressed me, that I got the game immediately and logged in  . My God! I was blown by the brutality of the game at the first opening level itself .Even though its a side scrolling 2-D action Game and the story is the usual Revenge where you aim at killing a Gang Lord along with his Loyal Subordinates who were responsible for the death of the Love of your life and who at that moment was carrying your unborn child , the Epicness of the game lies in the hack and slash gameplay . 

People who love God of War are definitely going to like this . Because for one its exactly like the PS3 Exclusive Brutality level No.1 Game, except that its a miniaturized version . Like Kratos , Shank too has two short knives , One big weapon which can be used for heavy attack and the similarity is seen in the grab and stab techniques along with the ferociousness with which Shank tears his enemies apart  . Unlike Kratos , Shank has a dual wielding pistols which can be used to take down enemies from long range and also those guys who are unreachable . 

The game just throws you hordes and hordes of Enemies at you whom you have to slash and kill before they finish you off  .Because I have to remind you that this game , unlike the new games , does not have a regenerative Heath system . You have to depend on Beers which you find on the way to get your system to replenish . This is where the entire challenges of the game lies . Bcos enemies can come at you from both directions . And simply mashing your X button is not going to be of much use . 

You have to rely on Combos , Like X,X,X and Y and then B for Guns . The more varying your combo is the more damage an enemy will take from your attacks  . The Light +basic melee weapon is your shank which can be used to for quick attacks and cannot be changed . 

Heavy Weapons ::

You initially start with a Chainsaw and then to A Huge Bad A@@ chain that you drape around your fists and then to dual Arabic Swords and then to Evil looking Katana . Out of which I loved the dual swords the best as I found it more lethal .

Guns: :

You start with the initial dual wielding pistols and then progress to s short Gun which is effective only in close range and not useful at all in the heated battle moments . And finally to a small Ingram which fires bullets in short bursts or if you aim and time it right it can be used for continuous burst too .

The grenades act as a huge life saver when the situation gets too ugly when the enemies jump upon you from behind or when they crowd you all around . I t can also be used to put a stop to a charging Bully . 

Bosses :: 

Boss fights are hugely frustrating and hard until you find out the trick to bring the guy down . Usually  you will get a hint when you die once in the boss fight . And the most common thing is to let the Boss charge at you and then you give him the slip thereby making him to stun himself or get stuck and wherein you lunge upon him and get real closer for a heavier and nasty attack that will siphon of your  enemy's life blood. 

And the video you get at the end of each boss fight  is hugely satisfying . Some bosses don t come with any special attacks and you just have to wait for an opening by executing a perfect Dodge  in their attacks to get a hit on them  .Very difficult even in normal mode that you may want to try it once or twice before you slice up his throat . Like Angelo and the final Boss especially . 

Enemies will be varied and each will have a special mode of attack . The girls are the most hard to kill and their attacks are the most lethal and very deadly to defend . And the Doberman , god ! I hated him to the core . That guy was deadly when he pounced . And if you don t block him he will maul you on the ground like anything . You do get to use a enemy weapon like the Gatling gun and Grenade Launcher sometimes . And believe me they are satisfying to use when the bodies start flying and they drop . But the minus part is you will not be allowed to carry them for not even ten paces . 

The acrobatic movements are a little challenging . Like the Wall run and jump and swing across the skeleton heads  or scurrying across hanging pipes and walls , they do force you to be on the tip of your toes sometimes .

Pro's : 

1. Hack and slash loads of enemies with brutal kills and perfectly timed deflections .

2. Boss Fights are hugely satisfying and even comes out as tough at some places .

3. A nice and challenging gameplay after playing the easy to complete games of now a days .

Cons's ::

1. The continuous button mashing can become a little irritating and too strenuous at some times . 

2. Same gameplay throughout and lets just say that you will feel mentally tired after even 1 hr of gameplay due to the amount of concentration required to finish a level without dying .

Overall :: A must play game for all Gamers who love Action Games

Devil May Cry

 Yet another DMC game is up for grabs . Well my initial reaction was yippee , Its time for some hack and slash ..But when they said it was a reboot of the game by a new developer , Ninja Theory I  expected it to be disappointing . What have you done  Capcom , I will always wonder . But still the game has a few highlights that makes it memorable and a real good experience , So lets plunge in .

Beauty of Limbo 

The story takes place in a real world which is nearer to our timeline within a city which is controlled by Mundus , a Demon Lord who hides the demons in a parallel  world called the Limbo . The concept of alternate dimension which is existing parallel to our world is beautifully shown . Hats off the idea behind that . And Limbo never had looked so beautiful and breadth taking . I mean we all would have come across Limbo in other games who had their own views of how it will be . Now Ninja Theory not only made it beautiful but also a little believable (i.e) at least according to the story line . Now tat really has to be appreciated .

Beauty of Limbo  2 - Bob's Lair

Dante gets a new look who looks like a sissy Girl , rather than the formidable , cool and stylish Demon Slayer that we know of .Although they have tried to provide the new Dante with the same character traits , hmmmmm ,  with his new looks it fails to hit the mark a little bit . He still has his ever favorite Sword ' The Rebellion ' and his guns ' Ebony and Ivory ' . The story is just a normal revenge slob where Dante and Vergil try to take down Mundus who was responsible for their mother's death , who was an angel and his father , a demon , to eternal banishment . So therefor the children who are born to them are Nephilim , Half Demon + Half Angel . And of course they are the only one who have the power to destroy Mundus , blah blah ..the Usual S**t ..

Gameplay :: 

Crumbling Limbo

The hack and slash is the same as the previous versions . But Hard core fans of the genre will definitely feel the difference in the speed of the gameplay . DMC 3 was the best sword play game that ever came into time . I mean it was fast , really really fast . The way you juggle combos with heavy attacks , Guns and demon power etc were so awesome tat it made Gamers go crazy over it .
DMC 4 slowed down a little bit , but still the dramatic Cut scenes and the huge finishing moves that you get to execute when you battle a boss were immensely satisfying . I loved the game for the awesome cut scenes alone :D

Even though its still all there in this one , Something is lacking  . I mean the enemies were a little slow moving even in hard mode that you can easily dodge their attacks . I mean whats the fun in tat . Again I felt that the game has been dumbed to make even noobs play good :( .

The way everytime you get pushed into Limbo the world around completely changes is really cool to look and experience . An ordinary room in real world would look like a bottomless pit in Limbo ;-) cool huh . and Kat is the only person who can cross into the limbo because she is a psychic . World shifts and changes as you move on is really deadly to watch and experience  .

Graphics :: 

Game looks beautiful but it doesn't tax your GPU that much any decent card is going to get you an average Frame rate . ( Mine was utilizing about only 34 - 40 % of GPU memory )Because The game is  a port of console version and there are no settings for you to tweak .But still you need a entry level card of this generation if you want your gameplay to be smooth without any lockups and slow downs .

Weapons ::

Be it DMC 1  , 2 , 3 and 4 the New weapons were never sparse . Well you start with your basic Sword Rebellion and Ebony and Ivory , and as you progress you get

a) Arbiter  ( Demon ):: 

A huge Axe which provides you huge stopping power again waves of enemies , especially powerful enemies with Shields . This huge smashing attack can break their shields into pieces . What is more cool is the way they need not be selected through weapons cycle  . All you need to do is to hold down your Right Trigger in your controller and Vola you can use the Arbiter , Release it and you immediately switch back to your Sword . Cool huh ;-) that was really impressive and New , I have to say.

Very useful to break down doors that can be smashed open only with the arbiter .

b ) Osiris ( Angel ):: 

The Osiris is nothing but a huge Scythe that can be used to provide round about attacks to dispel minions when they are around you completely . The way Dante handles it is really so cool to look . As you upgrade it can be used to cause a Whirl wind attack that can be used to slice through Veins that block your pathway .

c) Eryx ( Demon ) :

These are like the same ones Used by Kratos in GOW 3 where he gets it from his brother Hercules .
Its has very effective stopping power against charging Ravagers . Time it right and you can hurl the ravager away as it charges at you . But warning , It may be tricky to execute . But you can get easy style bonus with this . And also quite awesome in delivering killer Blows to Rage Spawn , Nastiest enemy you will ever come to face in this game .This is the one who was capable of hitting  me even with dodging and weakening me .

Its an important Power and is useful / Essential while battling Bob Barbars .

d) Aquila ( Angel ) :: 

Just like Agni and Rudra , the dual wielded blades from DMC 3 these are like huge shurikens which can be thrown like a Boomerang at enemies . Its very fast and can be very effective in taking down swarms of  enemies who are around you . The charged power of this one can be used to keep an enemy engaged while you concentrate and kill another and then going for the one whom you had engaged with a charge shot  , Bcos two at the same time can be very dangerous to your health as one may require a Angel Weapon to deal a hit and other may require a Demon weapon to make a dent .

e) Revenant and Kablooey : :

These are the other two guns you get in the game and allows you to cycle between all of them . Revenant has a style shot which looks so cool to see and can take down Younger Rages easily .

Kablooey is very hard to handle as it fires darts with explosives which explode only after you press a button  . Unless you press the button to explode you won t be able to fire another dart ..Sheesh !! Avoid it all cost ..

So tats it about weapons and lets get to ,

Upgrades & Unlocks 

Dante comes into the game with the double jump and basic attacks of Rebellion and his guns unlocked . And as you deliver stunning and stylish blows to your enemies the Style meter keeps track of your points and hits  .If your hit is too repetitive it will slowly start to decline . On the other hand if you juggle weapons and score hits by chaining combos it will go from Brutal to Anarchic to SS . You have to keep a high count in you style meter for you to get a decent average at the end of each level .

And of course based on the style meter you will get upgrade points which can be used to upgrade your weapon skills mostly . Dante's skills does not require any upgrade as it comes with everything . The only thing you can do is to collect Red Orbs as usual and use them to get a green vital star ( Although I am not sure with the difficulty so dumbed down you won t be needing it at all ) or you may use it to buy you an extra health bar .

Although keep in mind that the upgrade can be done only while starting the missions or with the help of Vitality statue that you may find in some recess of each level .

Limerick Criticizing new Dante Look :D

There are a lot of collectibles available in every mission that may itch and interest a compeltionist . Especially the collection of Bronze / Silver /Golden Keys which can be used to unlock Challenge Rooms in each level . Once you finish the challenge you will be awarded with a part of Star which when you collect and make a complete star can be used for increasing your life . This was really nice part in the game which i loved  . But some areas are really confounding , Bcos you will be able to see the key or the door but you won t have any clue as how to reach it . GoD!! its frustating .

Abilities :: 

Along wit the double jump you also have other abilities which can be performed with the help of your weapons

i ) Demon Pull  ::

As soon as you get the Arbiter you will be pulled off into a dream where you will be granted this power and an opportunity to practice it too .This can be used to pull environments and platforms to you . although it starts innocently easy at first , at the later stages it will get complicated . Useful while battling bosses .

ii) Angel Lift :: 

Exactly opposite of the demon Pull the Angel Lift pulls Dante to a glowing Blue point . Help in traversal around the broken world of Limbo .

iii ) Demon Power :: 

As usual the Demon Power gets Dante into Demon Mode for some amount of time where he can deal huge damage and becomes invincible . But compared to the older games this looks somewhat silly and odd .I can t put my finger on it  , but  nope I didn't like it .

Bosses :: 

First Boss -The Hunter

Boss Fights were always the best part of the DMC series. Because you get the awesome visuals and cutscenes at first and then then huge and dramatic Finishing moves which Dante performs with a Flourish . And I have to mention Nero who made an appearance in DMC 4 , who along with his Demon Hand had the best finishing and fight/ Brutal moves of all time . I really loved him .

Poison - who gives you Eryx Power 

So coming to Boss Fight in this DMC , I have to say that I was disappointed . Because for one , And as i have said before, they are too Damn easy to defeat . God I still remember the fight of DMC 4 Frog Boss and Final Boss fight where I had to fight like days and days to complete it . But here boss fights are so silly and easy and most of the time you wont feel as if you are doing anything at all . And the dramaticity was also not that effective  .When the slo mo camera starts and your heart leaps up in expectations only for it to fall back short when the cut scene ends bcos it was not what you were expecting at all . I don t even know how Capcom accepted this anyway .

Pro's ::

1. Experience the stark differentiation between the real world and Limbo . Limbo has never looked so beautiful and at the same time deadly .
2. The controls are easy to configure and looks so smooth when you get to execute on screen.
3.No big GPU required to run the game .
4. First time DMC fans / Beginners are going to love it for sure

Con's :: 

1. Game is too damn easy with missions too Short . Bosses too easy to kill.
2. No Dramatic Cutscenes for which DMC was famous for .
3. Gameplay is horribly slow when you compare to it the older versions of the game .
4. The upgrade system is such a joke because once upgraded it can also be removed and used for another upgrade ( I mean what the hell is tat ).

A must play game for the beginners of DMC franchise but once again I reinforce that Hard core DMC fans are going to be awfully disappointed .
